Original claim: Use a 0.01 significance level to test the the claim that the proportion of subjects who respond in favor is equal to 0.5. This was based on stem cell Research. If that's the original claim, what would the null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis be? The claim is then p=0.5. The opposite of the claim is p is not 0.5.

null: p=0.5, alternative: p not=0.5.


This is two-tailed since the alternative is true when p is significantly different from 0.5 in either direction.
